Man charged after chase

An Iowa City man was arrested following a foot chase with police during which he allegedly attempted to throw away a bag of cocaine, according to Iowa City police.

Craig Pickens, 26, was charged with a controlled-substance violation, a Class B felony, and failure to affix a tax stamp, a Class D felony, in the March 6 incident.

He was being held Sunday at the Johnson County Jail on $40,000 cash-only bond.

Pickens allegedly threw a bag containing 11 individually packaged bags of cocaine, and he reportedly admitted that he was attempting to sell the drugs, according to police. He also had $300 that he said was from selling cocaine.

A Class B felony is punishable by up to 25 years in prison, and a Class D felony is punishable by as much as five years in prison and a fine of up to $7,500.
