Parking changes

On Sept. 28, city employees will begin replacing some parking signs in Iowa City. The new signs will indicate parking restrictions based on odd and even days of the month rather than “calendar” parking.

Most of the new signs will be in the North Side neighborhood, with a few in the South Side and East Side.

Vehicle owners will still be required to move their vehicles to the opposite side of the street every 24 hours depending on whether the date is odd or even.

For one week after the signs are changed on a particular block, only warnings will be issued. After the first week, regular $15 tickets will be issued.

The City Council approved the change on Aug. 18. The new parking regulations will be enforced from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. After 5 p.m. every day and all day Sunday, parking is allowed on both sides of the street unless a snow emergency is in effect.
