Police arrive at Catlett Residence Hall after reports were made of a man with a knife was building on Sept. 25, 2018

UPDATE 9:43 a.m.: Officers did not find the suspect on Wednesday night after searching Catlett Residence Hall for a man with a knife seen near the third-floor entrance. A press release said officers searched in and around the building, and are confident the suspect did not enter the building or threaten anyone.

UPDATE 8:44 p.m.: Authorities clarify that the man was seen outside the third-floor entrance of Catlett, which can be accessed from the T. Anne Cleary Walkway.

UPDATE 8:37 p.m.: Police vehicles have left the scene at Catlett Residence Hall.

Authorities issued a Hawk Alert to the University of Iowa community on Tuesday warning of a man with a knife in Catlett Residence Hall.

The alert described the man as an older, white man, wearing a blue shirt and khaki pants on the third floor of the building. Catlett residents have been warned to lock their doors and call 911 with any information.

The UI Department of Public Safety will post updates on its emergency site.
