Rockford man assaulted officer, damaged squad car

Authorities have accused a Rockford, Illinois, man of assaulting an officer.

Darwyn White, 23, was charged Sept. 20 with fourth-degree criminal mischief, assault on persons in certain occupations, assault by inmate with bodily fluids or secretions, public intoxication, interference with official acts, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest affidavit, White was running through traffic, acting drunk. When White was placed in handcuffs and taken to the police car, the affidavit said, he threw his body on the car, resulting in $500 of damage.

White also head-butted a deputy and spit on a deputy’s leg and in the car, the affidavit said.

During a search of White’s vehicle, the affidavit said marijuana, a bong, and a marijuana pipe were found.

Assault in certain occupations and assault by inmate with bodily fluid or secretion are Class-D felonies.
